What is the significance of the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay?

The relay is a key part of the lead-up to the 2017 Canada Summer Games and will bring the excitement of the Games to communities around Manitoba and Kenora after an official lighting ceremony in Ottawa.

How do I become a torchbearer?

1. You can fill out the nomination/application form online here.

2. You can print off the nomination/application form from the 2017 Canada Summer Games website and mail it to the following address:

3. You can pick up a paper copy of the nomination/application form at any Manitoba Hydro office and mail the completed form to the address listed above.

Can I nominate someone to be a torchbearer?

Yes, there are three ways you can nominate someone to be a torchbearer.

How long is each torchbearer leg of the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay?

Each torchbearer will be required to run/walk/wheel 200-500m.

How will the torchbearers be selected?

Each community has a selection committee who will choose torchbearers for that location. Torchbearers will be chosen based on how well they demonstrate the Canada Games spirit and dedication to sport, youth, culture, volunteerism or their community.

When will I find out if I was chosen to be a torchbearer?

Torchbearers will be announced on May 12, 2017.

How old do you have to be in order to become a torchbearer?

You must be 12 years of age on or by June 1st, 2017.

What will happen once I am selected as a torchbearer in my community?

You will be contacted by a 2017 Canada Summer Games staff member who will give you information on next steps.

Do you have to run the whole leg of the relay?

No. You are welcome to walk, run or wheel your leg of the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay.
